We know shopping for your wedding gown can be overwhelming. Here's a few of the 'do's' and 'don't's', plus a couple 'believe us, you don't want to learn the hard way's.'
When to start searching for a dress:
we suggest starting your dress search approximately 8 months prior to the big day. since most of our designs are made to order, it can take 4-5 months to get in. another 1-2 months should be taken into consideration for alterations. if you have a short engagement, no worries! we carry one 'in stock' designer that only take several weeks to ship. rush options are always available as well, but a fee will incur.
How many to bring to appointment:
our cozy shop comfortably fits 3-5 in your entourage. however, we want your day to be special so if that means a few extra pals, we will make it happen. we highly suggest only bringing those that will support you with honesty AND tact.
What to bring to appointment:
nothing is required, but we appreciate any inspiration you'd like to share, photos of other favorite gowns, jewelry/accessories/shoes you know you'll be wearing, and NUDE undergarments.
Appointments required/highly suggested:
appointments are highly recommended, especially during our busy times (weekends!)! please visit our book page or give us a call. on occasion, we can accommodate same day appointments, but we do ask you give us a call before heading over to make sure we can fit you in!
our dresses range from 1000-4500 with the majority of them falling around 1500-2500. we also suggest looking at our bridesmaid designer for a budget friendly option (200-300), as all gowns come in white and ivory.
Size of samples:
most of our samples fall between 6-12, depending on what each designer sends us. please listen up, brides! samples rarely fit to perfection. with some simple tricks, we can give you a great idea of how each gown will look when ordered in the correct size. some imagination required. alterations are also almost always needed, either with a simple hem or some fixing in the bodice, etc..bringing us to our next question.
we do not have an in house seamstress. expect additional costs for any alterations your gown may need. we have a list of local seamstresses we have worked with in the past we can recommend.
Returns or exchanges:
we cannot accept returns or exchanges, and all sales are final. due to the made-to-order nature of our dresses, you can often expect some variation in style and/or dye lot. this unique nature of bespoke gowns is to be celebrated!
After the appointment:
okay, so you've been in, had your appointment, bought the gown (oh yeah!), and what now? well, this is the not-so-fun part. depending on designer, we'll have 3-5 months to wait until she comes in. once she does, we'll do a final inspection, make sure the gown is perfect and then reach out to you for a final appointment and to recommend alterations.
we aren't just bridal obsessed, but consider ourselves traverse city obsessed as well. our town is a not-so-hidden treasure of the midwest. for real.
